The Duolingo English Test (DET) is a one-hour online test that evaluates your overall English proficiency through Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. The test is adaptive, meaning the difficulty level adjusts automatically based on your answers.
It consists of three main sections:
1. Introduction & Setup (5 minutes)
Verify your identity with a valid ID.

(This section does not affect your score.)
2. Adaptive Test (45 minutes)
The main test evaluates your English skills through short, interactive question types such as:

It includes mixed question types, so reading, writing, listening, and speaking appear in random order.
3. Video Interview & Writing Sample (10 minutes)
Respond to one written prompt (3–5 minutes).
Record one spoken response (1–3 minutes).
These are not scored but are sent to universities along with your results.
